Teacher Professional Development:

Program:  Summer Science Institute in Biology
     Dates:   June 5 – June 9, 2023

In partnership with the University of Florida Center for Precollegiate Education and Training, Summer Science Institute (SSI) in Biology is an engaging, hands-on non-residential program for teachers to gain content-learning and skills prepare high school students in Biology I to master state standards and the required Biology end-of-course (EOC) exam. Teachers will work with university scientists, engage in research activities, participate in small group discussions, and develop relevant curriculum plans and assessment strategies. SSI will be held on the University of Florida campus June 5 – June 9, from 9:00a to 4:00p. SSI is supported by the ARP ESSER Supplemental Programming grant to the Alachua County Public School District. Teacher will receive a $1000 stipend for their participation.

Middle School Students:

           Program:  GatorLab
Program Dates: 
          Session 1:   June 12 - June 23, 2023
          Session 2:   June 19 - June 30, 2023

ACPS is partnering with the University of Florida Center for Precollegiate Education and Training to offer GatorLab for students entering 7th and 8th grade in the fall. There will be two, overlapping two-week day camp sessions held on the University of Florida campus where students will work alongside undergraduate and graduate science students and faculty researchers to explore different science concepts from microorganisms to galaxies. Students will attend one 2-week session.

GatorLab is supported by the ARP ESSER Supplemental Programming grant to the Alachua County Public School District. The hours will be 9:00a-4:00p with early drop off at 8:30 and late pick up until 5pm. There is no cost to participate in this program.

High School Students:

            Program:  Gator JumpStart Biology
 Program Dates:   July 10 – July 14

In partnership with the University of Florida Center for Precollegiate Education and Training, Jumpstart Biology is an engaging, hands-on residential program to enrich and prepare high school students entering Biology I in the fall to get a ‘jump’ on the Biology I state standards. Students will work with university scientists, visit research sites, participate in small group discussions, and social activities. Gator Jumpstart Biology will be held on the University of Florida campus July 10 – 14. Students will stay in dorms on UF’s campus. Gator JumpStart Biology is supported by the ARP ESSER Supplemental Programming grant to the Alachua County Public School District. There is no cost to participate in this program.
