The Summer Research Experience is a multi-week research and curriculum writing fellowship for secondary science teachers who have previously completed the NIH SEPA-funded CATALySES program, NIH SEPA-funded Bench to Bedside program, or the HHMI-funded ICORE program. Currently this program is funded as part of an NIH SEPA grant to UF CPET, as well as through individual grants to UF science researchers as part of their Broader Impacts component.

Our next Summer Research Experience for CATALySES alumni will take during three weeks in Summer 2021.

Due to covid, we are not able to host educators on campus, so we are planning a virtual collaborative curriculum design experience. This program is only open to CATALySES alumni and builds on two of the modules used in the two-week summer institute: dengue and ebola. We will specifically focus on using the WISE version of these modules in the classroom in their entirety or in a blended fashion. At the end of the summer, each educator will have an developed an implementation plan and customized WISE and classroom materials for use in the 2021/2022 school year.

The dates for the 2021 SRE are Monday, June 28 - Thursday, July 1; Tuesday, July 6 - Thursday, July 8; and office hours and independent/collaborative work Monday, July 26 - Thursday, July 29. Participants should plan to spend ~3 hours meeting virtually during the first two week. (Hours will be decided soon, likely 1-4pm.) Times are as needed during the third week. Full participation is required.

CATALySES alum may apply through the on-line application portal. Application review will begin May 15 and positions extended until all are filled. CATALySES alumni are encouraged to submit their application at their earliest convenience.
