Description: Do you want to experience life as a business gator? Join us this summer at GBLT, which will captivate you with the knowledge confidence and skills to become a business student in the future.

The GBLT Academy is an access-driven summer outreach program that aligns with the university’s land-grant mission of Florida. Specifically ,GBLT exposes highly motivated high school students and leaders to business education at the University of Florida, a top research public university. This rewarding and impactful experience will provide a variety of activities designed to enable ambitious students to learn about and explore the manifold and diverse opportunities that a business education uniquely offers. Upon completing GBLT, students will have a better understanding of business careers, their value to society and their communities, and of the steps required to confidently navigate the journey from high school scholars, through college and to success as productive adults and community leaders.

Designed for rising seniors who are first-generation (first in their families to attend college or parent/guardian have not earned a four year degree) or Pell-eligible, GBLT student leaders will be exposed to business classes, class projects and simulations, test-prep resources, site visits to central-Florida companies, teambuilding, social activities with peers, and mentoring with current college students.

Participants can expect to gain an extremely immersive academic experience. This experience places participants in contact with Warrington leadership, faculty, staff, and current students who shape their journey throughout the GBLT program. Participants will also gain critical insight into the tips and strategies required to being a successful Warrington College student and future business leader, as well as learning about important and rewarding career opportunities in business.

Participants will take part in:

  • Company site visits in central Florida
  • Test-prep sessions (ACT & SAT) with resources provided
  • Classroom activities including group projects
  • Business-plan training
  • Sessions covering UF admissions process, academic majors, career services (the placement process and career opportunities), and study abroad opportunities

Important Information: GBLT is open to all U.S. high school rising seniors that have an interest in business education and/or careers as future business leaders. Participants will be required to attend the entirety of the academy with no conflicting outside activities. The Warrington College of Business is committed to providing an inclusive learning environment with access for all students. The GBLT Academy advances this objective through the recruitment of students from underserved communities (e.g., first generation in college, low income background, students with disabilities) who may not otherwise be familiar with business education and career paths.
