Bingham Environmental Education Association (BEEF)
The Bingham Environmental Education Foundation was established in 1971 by students, friends and family of Dr. N. Eldred Bingham on the occasion of his retirement as professor and Chairman of Graduate Studies in Science Education at the University of Florida.
Dr. Bingham taught at the University for 21 years in all levels of higher education. In addition, he had a number of research projects and worked throughout the State of Florida to upgrade science teaching. He helped to initiate Science Fairs in Florida and played a major role in bringing NSF and NDEA Institutes and grants to the University.
At the time of his retirement, he was involved in developing a special science program for underachieving junior high school students. His leadership in science education was reflected in his work with graduate students (over 30 completed their doctorates in science education under his chairmanship).
During the 19 years following his retirement, he edited the international journal, “Science Education”. Dr. Bingham passed away in 1990. This award is made in his memory and in recognition of his interest and influence in environmental education.
