Research Immersion description
Center for Aquatic & Invasive Plants
Lab Hosts: Dr. Edward Phlips, Tammy Grosskopk, Erin Bledsoe, and Michelle Lockwood

My research project dealt with the population levels and nutrient requirements of phytoplankton and zooplankton in the St. John's, Suwannee, and Indian Rivers.  Water samples are collected from these sites on a regular basis and undergo a nutrient enrichment bioassay, as well as population counts of targeted species.  The research data is used to monitor nutrient levels in these waterways in cooperation with the St. John's River Water Management District and the city of Jacksonville.

Morning Lecture Series
TRUE participants attended lectures presented by UF faculty members on a wide variety of topics including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test, alligator reproductive abnormalities, neurology, semiconductors, influenza,  and electron microscopy.  These provided a wealth of information to us! I especially enjoyed the presentations by Dr. Parker Small, Dr. Louis Guillette, and Dr. Kevin Jones.  Not only were their topics interesting, but they had excellent presentation skills.
