While participating in the TRUE program, I had the privilege of working with Dr. Christiana Leonard and her staff in the Neuroscience Department. During this time, I learned a great deal about the brain's components , computer programming, and the many disciplines involved in research. One of the primary research projects I worked on was a grant on Neurobiological Foundations of Disabilities. Briefly, we studied the planar asymmetries associated with dyslexia, but also including differences in sex and handedness. My main contribution was in the measuring of brain volumes off a MRI scan and in reformatting these images on a SUN SparcStation. If you would like any more information on this subject feel free to contact   Dr. Leonard.

I greatly recommend the TRUE program to any teacher that has a desire to broaden his/her knowledge of science. Not only will you learn about new technologies and research in various fields, but you will also learn new techniques and lessons that you can bring back to your classroom.
