Science Quest Overview

Science Quest immerses rising 10th grade students in various science disciplines to stimulate interest and appreciation for the range of college and career opportunities available in science. Students will live in a campus dorm for one week, attend a variety of lectures and demonstrations, visit research laboratories and other facilities, and perform multiple science experiments. Science Quest participants will look through “Windows into Science” by exploring physical sciences such as Engineering, Geology, and Physics; delving into the molecular sciences, with emphasis on biomedical, forensic and environmental applications; investigating biological sciences such as Entomology, Microbiology, and Zoology; and much more.

Future Animal Career Experience for Students (FACES) Overview

The College of Veterinary Medicine is excited to launch a summer residential program during the week of July 21-28, 2012. FACES (Future Animal Career Experience for Students) is designed for rising tenth grade students who have an interest in a career in veterinary medicine either as a veterinarian, veterinary technician or other animal-associated position. The FACES program participants will explore the diversity of career possibilities within veterinary medicine through special lectures, demonstrations, tours and field-trips. This opportunity is open to 12 students who have completed one of the Science Quest programs in summer, 2012.

If you are interested in a career in veterinary medicine, this program will provide you with an understanding of the challenges and rewards of the profession. You will interact with other students who have a similar passion and begin forging future relationships with those who care about science and medicine for animals. FACES is supported by the faculty, residents and students of the College of Veterinary Medicine, many of whom will play an active role in making the summer program possible. Interested students should mention FACES in the personal essay portion of their Science Quest application.
