Science Quest
2003
The 48 participants of this year’s program were gifted tenth grade students, representing 23 counties and 40 schools in Florida. Each was selected because of an expressed interest in science and a demonstrated motivation to achieve in the classroom. Science Quest immerses students in various science disciplines to stimulate interest and appreciation for the range of college and career opportunities. Students experience college life by living in a campus dorm, by attending a variety of short lectures, by participating in demonstrations and hands-on activities, by visiting research laboratories and other facilities, and by doing science experiments.
This year’s participants discussed bioethics, performed dissections, analyzed DNA, inspected human bones, explored caves and springs, worked with programming software, and experienced different aspects of environmental engineering.
