Student Science Training Program (SSTP)
Meals
Participants provide the majority of their own meals during the program. They can shop and prepare meals with their roommates or shop and cook on their own. Many participants have commented on the wide variety of ethnic cooking prepared by their fellow participants which they were able to sample during the program. Transportation for grocery shopping will be provided by the program every other week of the program (public bus transportation is available around the clock).
The UF Gator Dining Services also offers an optional Declining Balance account which allows a participant to eat anywhere on campus by simply swiping their Gator-1 ID card (which participants will obtain when they arrive for the program). There are eating locations scattered across campus, including Wendy's, Sushi Noodle Bar, Taco Bell, Capeesh, Subway and home style meals from dining facilities such as Gator Corner and Fresh Food Company.
Participants who choose to set up a Declining Balance account decide how much and how often to deposit. If you do not plan to cook at all it is recommended that you start with a balance of $200. There's no fee to establish the account and no minimum balance to maintain. Unused balances are refunded at the end of the program. It is convenient and safe - no need for cash or ATMs.
Please visit the Gator Dining Service website for more information on the Declining Balance account.
