Student Science Training Program (SSTP)

Dual Credit Enrollment

Dual Enrollment credits are available as a part of the UF-SSTP.

Dual Enrollment is available to SSTP participants who attend high school in the state of Florida. SSTP participants will participate in the following courses regardless of dual enrollment status.

1 - Honors Seminar in Scientific Inquiry (IDH 2931) Students meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to participate in one of eight IDH 2931 sections. The class curriculum incorporates lecture, library research, discussion, reactionary papers, oral presentations and quizzes. Each section explores a different areas of science. Topic areas vary from year to year. The 2007 section topics include: Artificial Intelligence,Virology, Coastal Engineering, Medical Instrumentation, Controversies in Health Care, medical neuroscience and Cell Cycle Signaling and Death. SSTP students who decide to register for dual enrollment credit will receive 3 undergraduate elective credits for this course and fulfill ½ elective requirement toward high school graduation.

2 - Independent Laboratory Research (IDH 3931) Students are assigned to one laboratory for the entire seven week program. Students participate in laboratory research 28 hours each week (Mon-Fri). Students are evaluated on performance in the following areas- research prospectus, research abstract, research paper, research poster, mid-term and final oral presentations and laboratory attendance/timeliness. SSTP students who decide to register for dual enrollment credit will receive 3 undergraduate Gordon Rule (6,000 words) credits and fulfill ½ elective requirement toward high school graduation.

* Due to a recent change in Department of Education policy all dual enrollment courses will receive one full quality point. Dual enrollment course weight will now equal that of IB, AP and AICE courses.

2008 UF-SSTP students who are interested in registering to receive dual enrollment credit are required to submit all dual enrollment forms prior to your arrival at UF on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Completing the paperwork does not obligate you to enroll. You will have until the second Thursday of SSTP (June 27, 2008) to give written notice of intention to register for dual enrollment credit. Students will be permitted to withdraw and receive a W in place of a letter grade if they complete a petition by August 1, 2008.
