Summer Science Institute
The Summer Science Institute at the University of Florida is an ongoing professional development opportunity for secondary science teachers focused on updating content knowledge and laboratory experience. Together with UF faculty and graduate students, teachers perform authentic research, visit laboratories and facilities, hear talks by research and industry leaders, share best practices and develop standards-aligned classroom applications.
There are two 2008 Summer Science Institute offerings:
Summer Immersion in Science: June 28 – July 3, 2008 (*Registration closed.)
Explorations in Life Science: July 7 – July 11, 2008
The registration fee for each SSI includes all laboratory supplies, curricular materials, and take-home activities and resources. Additionally, teachers successfully completing an SSI workshop with a biotechnology laboratory are eligible to take advantage of our new biotechnology equipment locker program. On-campus housing is available for interested participants.
Teachers are encouraged to contact their administrators about the availability of professional development funds to cover registration and housing. Limited scholarships may be available, particularly for rural and/or underserved communities.
