“During JSEHS I learned about very interesting research topics and projects that never would have been brought up at school and that inspired questions I may not have ever thought without this experience.” - 2012 JSEHS Student Participant
Join motivated and talented students from throughout Florida at the 50th Annual Junior Science, Engineering, and Humanities Symposium at the University of Florida on January 27 -29, 2013.
While at JSEHS, students, teachers, and parents are challenged and engaged during research lab tours and by faculty research lecturers. Participants interact with UF faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students to explore university-level research, learn about science majors and, discover career opportunities.
UF pre-professional organizations and science clubs bring hands on demonstrations and information to students, teachers, and parents. Students participate in the Student Science Forums by presenting bench or library research at the Poster Session or Student Research Talks.
Selected 11th and 12th students compete in the Student STEM Research Speaker Competition for scholarship awards. All participants attend this judged competition to learn from peers, to improve critical thinking skills, and to prepare for future competitions.
In addition to the science components of JSEHS, participants meet and exchange ideas with peers during planned activities and free time. Social activities, including a pizza social with ice breakers and student dance, are included. Participants enjoy an interactive humanities presentation by a UF or college-level performing arts group. A formal banquet and awards luncheon are attended by JSEHS co-sponsors, the US Army Research Office and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

Comments from Past Participants
"The atmosphere was business-like and adult. Science had a distinct air of importance."
"The symposium was wonderful! It's a great learning experience where one has a chance to look into the fields of study they are interested in. It is no wonder that this program has been such a success for thirty-five years."
"It was an enriching experience to have the opportunity to talk to the actual researchers, not just see them on television or read about them in magazines, journals or books."
"The ability to nurture our highly motivated students and recognize their talents was a refreshing experience."
