Interdisciplinary Center for Ongoing Research / Education
2008 Program: Teacher Comments

I never realized the severity of the threat posed to us by emerging and re-emerging pathogens. We automatically assume that all pathogens of interest revolve around human health, but this program opened our eyes to the economic importance as well as the threat of bioterrorism. This was an extremely enriching and unique opportunity to meet with researchers who are on the cutting edge of discovery and learn some of the laboratory techniques that are used extensively. Anyone who is interested in science and wants to improve their classroom instruction should participate in this program. You will walk away enthused, energized, and enable to study real world problems.

The ICORE program is a tremendous professional development opportunity for science teachers. Teachers can have difficulty staying current with the latest advances in science; this program provides the necessary hands-on experience to bring cutting-edge science to the classroom.

This program was the most well organized, well presented and content rich workshop that I have attended. The variety of experts who were willing to share this knowledge was outstanding and provided us with tangible activities that can be directly implemented in our classrooms.

A great, exceptional program with plenty of up-to-date helpful science related information. Techniques and applications that can be utilized in every science classroom.

This was a great experience. I would strongly encourage anyone who has a passion for technology and teaching science to attend.

My two week experience with ICORE Emerging Pathogens was professionally and personally rewarding. I witnessed biotechnology being applied in various science fields.

This workshop gave me the tools to bring biotechnology into the classroom, since it trained us well in the different techniques and their significance. It was also a great way to obtain cutting edge information on the emerging pathogens and scientist working with them. Finally, the workshop is so well organized and planned that it just made being here a fantastic experience.

This experience as a teacher has enlightened, entranced and energized me to do even a better job of teaching our youth.
